Flu Shots

As the season turns toward chilly weather, colds, coughs, and the flu are coming out in force. Laurel Health System is ready to fulfill your flu vaccine needs! The Occupational Health Building, 25 Walnut Street in Wellsboro, will be holding a public flu clinic on Tuesday, November 18, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vaccinations may be purchased for $25; cash and Medicare Part B are accepted. Meals

The Public is invited to the Troy Vets Club for meals. Weekdays lunch is served 11am-2pm, Dinners on Wednesday and Friday Nights. Pizza is available on Thursday Nights and the breakfast buffet on Sundays from 7am-11am. For more information call 570-297-3122

 

Christmas Concert

Enjoy a Christmas Concert at Keystone Theatre in Towanda on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 3:00 p.m.  Sacred and festive selections by Carrie Hooper, soprano soloist, and Pro Musica.  Christmas message by Rev. Bill Klees.  Sponsored by Chemung Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Tickets: $5 each at Dandy Mini Marts in Towanda area.

 

 

Troop Support

Operation Holiday Morale is now accepting care packages to send to our troops. Among the items being accepted are Food Bars, Peanuts, Trailmix, Beef Jerky, snack crackers, sunflower seeds, gum, breath mints and hard candy. The troops also need black pens, envelopes and chapstick.  All donations may be dropped off at the Canton Sentinel in Canton or at the offices of Wiggle 100 & The Bridge in Troy or Towanda. Time is of the essence so get your donations in early.

 

Soup Sale

On Wednesday November 19th, there will be a soup sale at the Valley United Methodist Church in Sullivan County. Choices of soups include chili, ham & bean, chicken & corn, and vegetable beef. Soup will be sold by the quart for $4. Please place the order prior to the sale date. Telephone numbers to call are: 570-482-2476 or 570-482-2394. Orders may be picked up between 12:30 and 2:30 pm.   The Valley United Methodist Church is located on State Route 220 between Sonestown and Muncy Valley

 

Valley Church Supper Club

The Valley United Methodist Church supper club for November will be on the 20th. The Valley United Methodist Church is located on State Route 220 between Sonestown and Muncy Valley. Reservations are requested by calling 482-2476. The public is welcome to attend.

 

NY/Penn Firemen

The November meeting of the New York Penn Firemen’s Association will be held Thursday November 20th at 8pm at the Big Flats Fire Department. All member companies are invited to attend. Light refreshments will follow the meeting.

Benefit Dinner

A benefit dinner for Larry Chaapel will be held at the East Canton United Methodist Church on Friday November 21st at 5 o’clock pm.

 

Fish Fry

On Friday, November 21st, there will be a fish fry at Fay’s Sugar Shack at 4:30 to 7pm. The dinner includes: fish or chicken, potatoes, cabbage salad, rolls, coffee, milk, and homemade desserts. The fish fry is sponsored by Big Pond Lions Club.

 

Turkey Raffle

On Saturday November 22nd, at the Ridgebury Sportsmen’s Club, there will be a turkey raffle. The event starts at 7 pm. Turkeys will be raffled off, as well as beef and pork loins. For more information, please call 570-596-4373.

 

Bake Sale-Auction

There will be a bake sale-auction to benefit the Bradford-Sullivan Counties American Red Cross on November 22nd from 1 o’clock to 3 o’clock pm. The bake sale-auction will be held at the Sullivan Terrace-Dushore Senior Center Community Room.

 

Second Annual "Turkey Trot"

The Bradford County Medical Society and Alliance are sponsoring the second annual BCMSA Turkey Trot on Thursday, Nov. 27, at the Sayre Theatre in Sayre. The event will include a 5K walk/run and a kids' fun run. Race times are: 9:30 a.m. -run for the kids (ages 10 and under) 10:00 a.m.- 5K run/walk Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and costs $20. Water stations, snacks, and a warm beverage will be available for participants. All Proceeds from the event will benefit community health projects, such as a school hand washing program and hospital pediatric activity bags. In addition, canned goods and toiletries will be collected and donated to the Sayre House of Hope.

South Creek Fire Department

The South Creek Fire Department will be sponsoring a blood drive on Saturday November 29th from 12n-6pm. This Blood drive is in honor of local a local resident. The fire Department is located off Rt 14 in the village of Fassett.

 

Free Concert

Common Time Choral Group goes “Home for Chirstmas” in a free concert on Saturday November 29 at 7:30 pm at the Clemens Center’s Powers Theater. The Common Time Band will begin playing at 7. For more information, call 607-734-6821.

 

Hunter’s Breakfast

Fassett Grange will hold it’s Annual Hunter’s Breakfast on Monday, December 1st. They will be serving pancakes with real maple syrup, scrambled eggs, sausage, home fries, juice, coffee, tea or cocoa from 5to 7 am. This breakfast is all you can eat for $5.00 per person. Even if you’re not a hunter, you can come enjoy this heart breakfast.

 

Lighting of the Green

Sat. Dec. 6th 7:30 PM, East Smithfield Town Square Christmas Story Read by local Pastors, caroling, two choirs performing from local churches, LIVE NATIVITY, Santa arrives on a Fire Truck, photo's with Santa, Chinese Auction, Refreshments served.  This event is sponsored by the East Smithfield Business Association.

Home for the Holidays

The Mansfield Chamber of Commerce invites you to this all day event on Saturday November 29th. The days activities include photos with Santa, A poster contest, Horse Drawn wagon Rides at Smythe Park and more. A complete list of events is available at www.mansfield.org

 

Remembrance Ornaments

Laurel Hospice will be selling remembrance ornaments at the Dickens of a Christmas on Saturday, December 6, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at a booth in front of The Dumpling House on Main Street in Wellsboro. Large ornaments are $10, small ornaments are $6, and a display stand for the ornaments may be purchased for $2. Available ornaments include an angel tapestry, birds in a basket, and a small, elegant star. Each ornament comes gift wrapped in a special bag and gold ribbon. A Tree of Remembrance will also be featured at the booth where people may place foam ornaments bearing the names of remembered loved ones, which will then be transferred to a large tree in the lobby of Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital to be displayed throughout the holiday season.

 

 

Valley Chorus Christmas Concert Tickets on Sale

The Valley Chorus Christmas Concert tickets are now on sale for both performances to be held Friday night, December 5th at 7 PM (white ticket) and Saturday afternoon December 6th at 2 PM (green ticket) at the Athens High School Auditorium, 401 West Frederick St.  Tickets are available in the Valley at selected Dandy Mini Marts, Jayne’s Florist, Jay Furniture, Carl’s News Stand, Yale’s Music and Plants and Things.  Tickets are also on sale at The Red Rose Diner in Towanda and from any chorus member.  There is a $2 savings if you get your tickets in advance for a donation of $8.   For more information consult www.valleychorus.org

 

 

Babysitting Course

Laurel Health System is offering a one-day babysitting course on Monday, December 1, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Pennsylvania College of Technology’s North Campus. The American Red Cross Babysitter's Training Course is an exciting, hands-on learning experience that teaches 11- to 15-year-olds important role model and leadership skills, as well as training in infant and child care. Students will learn about safety, problem-solving, effective communication, interviewing for babysitting positions, and emergency preparation including how to handle illnesses, injuries, and household accidents. Robin Flynn, Wellness Coordinator, and Sue Sticklin, Director of Community Support Services, will serve as course instructors. Lunch will be provided, and a certificate of completion will be awarded. The cost of the course is $25 to purchase course books and DVDs for each student. Space is limited, and the class will fill up fast. Dance

Chicken and Biscuit Dinner

There will be a benefit Chicken and Biscuit dinner for Colin (Coly) Graves. He is battling Lukemia. Sunday December 7th at the Wellsboro Moose Lodge, Wellsboro, Pa. (you do not need to be a member of the Moose) from 12:30 to 3:30. The cost is $6.00 per person. There will also be several raffles.
