Street Sweeping

Troy Boro Officials have scheduled the following dates with NTSWA for street sweeping.  Street sweeping is generally completed between 4 am and 8 am to avoid higher traffic volume.  Dates may be adjusted to better fit NTSWA’s schedule or for weather conditions at NTSWA’s discretion.  These dates are also listed on the Troy Borough website calendar.

 Goodies for our troops
The public realtions workshop at Mansfield University is hosting an event for goodies for our troops on Campus April 9th 2015 4-9. A chicken BBQ will be held between elliot Hall and Alumni hall, there will hotdogs and hamburgers and chips, and baked goods for two dollars. All money raised will be given to the Goodies for our Troops the public is encouraged to come.
 
Spaghetti Dinner
The Wysox Volunteer Fire Company will have a Spaghetti Supper on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the Fire Hall in Wysox.  Serving will begin at 4:30 p.m. and last until 6:30 p.m.   The meal is complete with Salad, drink and homemade desserts.   Take outs are available.   Come out and support your local fire company while enjoying some good food and great company.
 
Spaghetti Dinner
"The Wells-Jackson Lions Club" is sponsoring a spaghetti dinner on Friday, April 10, 2015 from 5-7pm at the Millerton Wesleyan church, 5174 Main Street, Millerton, PA. This dinner is open to the public. The cost of $8.00 and $7.50 for children and seniors includes beverage and dessert. Take-outs are available.
 
Roast Beef and Turkey Dinner
The South Creek Lions Club will be holding a "Roast Beef & Turkey Dinner" on Saturday April 11th at the Lions Hall on Route 14 in Gillett. The Dinners menu include "Real" Mashed Potatoes, Vegetables, Baked Beans and "Home Baked Bread" Cost is $9.00 per person. Doors open at 4:30pm Dessert plus coffee, tea and lemonade will be available.

Monthly Breakfast will be held Sunday April 12th  South Creek Lions on Route 14 in Gillett will present a breakfast for the public. The menu includes scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, toast and sausage gravy along with coffee, orange juice. Cost is $8.00 per meal doors open 7am-10:30am.
 
Rabies Clinic
The Chemung County Health Department, in conjunction with the Town of Baldwin, will be offering the following free rabies vaccination clinic to New York State residents at the  Baldwin Volunteer Fire Department on the

The East Troy Baptist Church is holding a rummage sale on Thursday, April 16, 2015 from 8:00 to 4:00. Lunch will be served on Thursday. Bag Day is Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 8:00 to noon. There will be no sales on Friday.   
                 
Penny Social 
There will be a Penny Social Friday April 17th 2015 at the Leraysville Community Hall. Doors open at 5pm, drawing at 7pm. There will be door prizes and refreshments. This is to benefit Order of Eastern Star #76 in Towanda.

Buffet Breakfast
The Towanda Elks Lodge is holding a buffet breakfast sunday April 19th from 8AM to 11AM.The menu includes pancakes, french toast, homefries, eggs, sausage gravy, and bisquits. They also have ham, bacon, homemade cinnamon rolls and desserts, coffee and juice.

Twin Tiers Honor Flight is a non profit organization. Its purpose is to take WW2, Korean War, and terminally ill veterans of any era to Washington D.C. to visit their war memorials and Arlington National Cemetery.  This event is to raise money for a trip to Washington D.C. on Father's Day, June 2, 2015, in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War 2. American Bombshells
The American Bombshells, an all-female patriotic singing trio from NYC will be in the region on Ssaturday April 18th as the Twin Tiers Honor Flight presents a Benefit Gala to help fund the next veterans' trip to DC. The event will be held at the  Wings of Eagles,Building 339 Daniel Zenker Dr., Horseheads, NY 14845.

Happy Tails Spring Craft and Vendor Fair to be Held April 18

 Happy Tails No Kill Animal Shelter will host their 1st annual Spring Craft and Vendor show.   Saturday, April 18th from 10am to 4pm at South Waverly Borough Hall.  In addition to a wide variety of crafters and vendors, there will be a 50-50 raffle and a Chinese Auction with the drawing held at 3:30pm.  Free goodie bags will be given away to the first 50 children who attend.  Lunch will be available for purchase.  There is no charge for admission.

Fran Terpik, a Reiki practitioner from Owego whose practice is limited to animals, will be doing a “Reiki for pets” demonstration on the stage area at 10amnoon, and 2pm. (Reiki is a Japanese hands-on form of healing.)  She also does dog grooming and kinesiology, which is muscle testing for various conditions.  The show is being sponsored by Happy Tails No Kill Animal Shelter with proceeds to benefit the shelter.

 

Donkey Basketball
 

The Troy High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) and  Future Business Leaders of America organizations will be hosting a Donkey Basketball game on Monday, April 20th at 7 PM in the Gym. Proceeds from this event will  benefit the Troy Food Bank, FBLA's Relay for Life team and Twilight Wish (honoring our elderly American Veterans by fulfilling their last wishes).  Tickets on sale in the High School Main Office for $8 per person from now until Wednesday, April 15th. After the 15th, tickets can be purchased for $10 at the door. Green Gardening

The Chemung County Stormwater Coalition is offering a FREE "Green Gardening" workshop on April 21, 2015 at 6pm, at the Conservation Cabin at the Chemung County Fairgrounds. This workshop will take "Green Gardening" one step further with a green approach which includes composting information and using rain barrels and rain gardens for managing stormwater runoff. Free Courses Allow Motorcyclists to Start Riding Season Safely
Although winter weather still has an icy grip on the commonwealth, through the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program (PAMSP), PennDOT has begun offering all riders – from novice to experienced – a chance to take advantage of valuable safety training before hitting the road for the riding season.  Registration is now open for all PAMSP courses, which are free to Pennsylvania residents who have a motorcycle learner’s permit or motorcycle license.  The Tenth Annual Walk a Mile in My Shoes suicide prevention walk and fundraiser will take place this year on Saturday, May 2nd at Eldridge Park beginning at 11:00 AM. On-the spot registration opens at 9 am and returning this year featured performance by the Ithaca-based youth music group "Vitamin L" at 10:15 am. A Tire Colletion day will be held Saturday May 2nd, between 8 am and 11 am.  Park Station

The Chemung County Buildings and Grounds Department announces that camping reservations for Park Station will be taken starting Wednesday, April 1st from 7:00am - 3:30pm (closed between 12-12:30).  Reservations will be taken by TELEPHONE ONLY on April 1st and April 2nd with a limit of 2 reservations per person on these days, after which walk-ins are welcomed. 

****Payment is to be made within 10 days of making the reservation.  A reservation made less than 10 days from reservation date must pay at the time of the reservation.  A full refund less a $20.00 handling fee will be given with a minimum 14 calendar day cancellation notice.  A cancellation less than 14 days will result in a camping credit less $20.00 handling fee, to be used during the current camping season. 

All persons wanting to make reservations need to call the CHEMUNG COUNTY BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS DEPARTMENT at 607-737-2843 only.  Due to the high volume of calls please be aware that it may take quite some time to get through.
